There has been ongoing discussion about the benefits of each system. Polyols can be made from ethers or esters, so based on a specific application a manufacturer can choose from various polyols. Each polyol has its place for a given application. Continuous research has indicated that the polyether based resins do not have the cut and tear resistance to withstand tough floor conditions that exist in many warehouses. As a result, polyether based systems tend to experience a higher level of field failures than do polyester systems. Polyether based resins are subject to moderate heat buildup and then spike to failure sooner than polyester resins, particularly with long runs and heavy loads.
Polyesters exhibit higher cut/tear resistance and loading capabilities. With these performance characteristics, polyesters tend to excel in a wider range of warehouse conditions. Polyester based resins are well suited for rough floors, expansion joints, dock plates and long runs.
